Mike Sonko in impromptu lunch meeting with ex-deputy governor, Igathe

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko held a meeting with his former deputy Polycarp Igathe on Friday, March 3 at his home months after the two parted ways. The two were for the first time appearing in public since Igathe unexpectedly announced he had resigned as Sonko's deputy on Friday, January 12.

"Without fear, favour or ill will I step down to avoid abusing or betraying my oath of office to Kenyans, Nairobians and my family. Thank you for the encouraging support given to me so far," he said in his statement," Igathe said in his resignation letter.

Sonko took to his social media pages to share the photos where he announced he had hosted a special guest as he recuperated.

"With special guest who paid me courtesy call in my home as am recuperating," he said in a Twitter post seen by NAIEXPOSE.co.ke.

But Sonko did not reveal where he had sought treatment and what he was ailing from and neither did they divulge what they discussed. "Asante sana..pamoja brother...God bless you," Igathe is heard telling Sonko as he left. There have been speculations over the next step by Igathe with reports indicating he was headed to Nation Media Group (NMG) to replace Joe Muganda who resigned to take over as CEO of Vivo Energy, a position Igathe held before plunging into politics.

Sonko recently made changes to his cabinet but he did not name Igathe's replacement and their meeting elicited divided opinion from their supporters on what could have transpired during the brief meeting.
